Charmglow Gas Grills

Look out! There's a problem with some of these grills that can cause a fire. There've been at least two recalls plus the consumer complaints listed below.

Susan of Andover MA (04/15/08)
Unfortunately I bought the Brinkman 5 burner stainless steel grill (720-0234) in April 2006 from Home Depot. I shopped around a lot and looked for complaints on line. Nothing at the time. Now, I have burnt out burners. THey actually went last summer, but since it was almost time to put away the grill, I just decided to wait until this spring to deal with it. Currently I am on hold with Brinkman. 15 minutes and still waiting.

From reading the other comments, I don't think I have much chance of getting any satisfaction. I am probably going to go to small claims court like the one individual did. After spending nearly $600 on this grill, I expected much more. Everyone should stay away from these grills! Money down the drain and a huge safety hazard. What is the recourse now that we are all stuck with this junk? I hope some consumer lawyer takes this on. This is so not fair of Brinkman. Home Depot and any other retailer should stop selling this brand.

Unusable. Fire blasting out the holes in the burners.

Terry of Canton MI (04/13/08)
I purchased a Charmglow gas grille, Model # 720-0234 on 04/02/2006 for $505.22 from Home Depot. I purchased this stainless steel grille thinking stainless steel would not rust out. Boy was I wrong. All of the burner tubes are rusted and one has falled apart. I have had flames shooting out the back of the grille. The remaining tubes are so rusted very little gas comes out. I am afraid to use the grille.

No damage. This product has a 5 year warrant on the burner tubes. I have not been able to get through to Charmglow on their warranty 800 number. I want my money back! This product is clearly defective.

Earl of Coatesville PA (04/13/08)
My wife purchased a Stainless Steel Charmglow 5 burner grill model # 720-0234 from Home Depot in May of 2006 now here it is April of 2008 and all the burners are corroded, the regulator is bad and the tubing feeding the burners looks bad also. This grill was over $500.00 and now I look for the manufacturer's website and found the complaints about this grill. I tried contacting Charmglow to no avail and don't want to put any more money into this POS grill. I thought this stainless steel grill with a name of charmglow would be good guess not. If a class action suite is in the works count me in.

None I caught the problem before my house burned down. If I would not have checked out the grill first It may have blown up. On a grill that should be in warranty I am now out $500.00 + dollars for 2 seasons of use.

Pat of Jackson NJ (04/13/08)
I purchased a Charmglow gas grill model 720-0036HD 05 about 2 years ago from Hme Depot. I took it apart to clean it and found the burners rusted out. I was shocked to see how many others have had the same problem. I Plan to try to get this replaced. I purchased the all stainless steel model to avoid rust. what's up with that?

$ 350.00 of wasted money

Cindy of Oak Harbor WA (04/12/08)
Wow, we bought a charmglow bbq 720-0036-hd-05 and have had nothing but problems. We thought by spending more we would get a good bbq cuz all the others below rusted out. this one was stainless steel, supposed to be great. The burners burned out and there was fire everywhere, that was already going through the recall for the hoses. I took the BBQ apart to replace the new burners they sent after paying shipping and handling and a year later, same problem. I went to home depot, lowes to see about replacement burners but no one carries them, you have to go through the charmglow warranty and pay another $14 to get them shipped, some warranty but beyond that now I am finding new ones coming out of this type of burner are made of brass so they dont burn out. Why isnt charmglow recalling the burners which are a fire hazard? Am I out $400 for a bbq I cant use unless I want to risk burning my house down. gee, let me think about that... NO!!!! Wonder how much I can get from the stainless steel selling it off for scrap so I can at least collect something since I dont have my reciept anymore. And thatnk you because I thought I was doing something wrong. We cover it, clean it... thinking it was something we were doing. its just the burners are crap!

out the money spent on bbq

M.k. of Camas WA (04/09/08)
Bought a charm glow grill model 720 0036 hd 05 at home depot 91.05 paid 349.00. have receipt.used 2 seasons. rusted out. sent flames dangerously into air. calld service number at Chamglow...must give CC number to charge for shipping and handling of warranted parts?? Took grill back to Home depot....30 day return policy then manufacturers problem. offered 15 percent discount on new grill!?

out 349.00 and the scare of my life!!

Charles of Clinton Twp. MI (04/09/08)
We bought a five burner gas grille a year ago and last week the back of it was on fire, all burners rusted out. Home Depot says contact Charmglow. The replacements will cost over 160.00. Why is Home Depot still selling these potential bombs?????? They should at least refund our money. How many complaints do they need?? Or will someone get hurt before they do something.?

Greg of Cape Coral FL (04/09/08)
Purchased a $350 stainless chargrill Sept. 2006 within a year the burners started to fall apart, attempted to purchase them at home depot to find out they don't carry them, called the company Charmglow for replacements they wanted receipt which we could not find, home depot could not help unless we knew the exact register that we checked out from. Decided to just order the parts anyway which would cost $75.00 plus shipping and handling. Made several attempts to get through to the company again, long waits on the phone over 30 minutes and still cannot get through. At this point not sure after reading others complaints of backorders, and will rust again, should not have to pay for more defective parts. Not sure what to do at this point, cannot afford to buy another one and have been without mine for a few months.

Cannot afford another grill, spent hard earned money on something that I thought would last me for many years if taken care of properly, many hours spent on the phone, with no satisfaction. Have been without a grill for several months.

Jo of Milton VT (04/08/08)
I purchased a 3 burner Charmglow gas grill, Model # 720-0230, on May 6, 2006. The burners need to be replaced. They have a 5 year warranty. I tried contacted the numbers and e-mail address listed in our user manual. I have been unable to reach anyone.

I then called Home Depot and they gave me a new number and e-mail address for Charmglow. When I call I just remain on hold forever (over 30 minues). I still have been unable to speak with anyone regarding replacement parts that are under warranty. I sent an e-mail but they do not respond.

There is also a problem with the stainless steel finish. I feel that I should be able to return the grill for a brand new grill. This grill is a piece of junk and I cannot get through to anyone for repairs that are under warranty. Our family is now out $350 of our hard earned money.

David of San Antonio TX (04/07/08)
Well like so many others. I too bought a Charmglow grill at the Home Depot.. and, it too was a prime example of a Piece of Crap! the burners have all rusted and completely fallen apart. to the tune of $695.00 and like so many others; I am left with no way of using it.. what a waste! It seems to me that The Home Depot should find a way to replace these defective items or refund the monies spent by the people who ultimately keep them in business. it's an outrage!.. if there's is gonna be a class action lawsuit then count me in.

Well it seems unreasonable to pay that much money and not be able to use the product. In addition to having it be a fire hazzard. I thank God that I cought it in time otherwise; who knows? The bottom line is this; We are well within our rights to expect a product of that cost, to do it's function for a reasonable amount of time. If not then The company who is in effect Cheating it's consumers should be held responsible and, make restitution.

Kc of Miami FL (04/06/08)
I bought this piece ( 720 - 0324) of crap 18 months ago from Home Depot and all 5 burner were all rusted. I was grilling when I notice that the back of the grill was all red. It almost cause a fire!

I paid almost 900.00 for this grill and you bet I will never buy another grill from Charmglow or Home Depot.

Victor of Sherwood OR (04/02/08)
I purchased a Charmglow Gas Grill Model 720-0036-HD-05 in 6/06 and its burners are all rusted out, the tops just caved in, and it flames like a weed burner! I'm still waiting on the recalled supply line fix kit! $350 waste of money, thanks Home Depot.

Michael of Odessa FL (03/30/08)
Wow, I am so glad I stumbled on this article. I have the Charmglow 3 burner for about two years. Fire is blowing out the back of the burners and not maintaining good heat. Thought I was going to replace burners, thinking otherwise now. Sounds like this is one problem not worth fixing. Thank God I didn't burn my house down! Thank you to everyone making their reports!

My Dad's out $400 for buying me a birthday gift. Class action lawsuit sounds right. My grill is on my covered patio, I could have burned my house down!

Bryan of League City, TX (03/28/08)
I purchased a Charmglow gas grill from Home Depot in Aug 2005, and like everyone else, my burners recently crumbled into pieces due to corrosion.

In the process of looking for replacement parts, I found the fire hazard recall notification that was released in Sept, 2005. I read through the recall and then inspected my grill and sure enough my LP hoses did appear to have some heat damage as indicated in the recall.

So I guess I'm lucky that I wasn't one of the people who experienced fires or worse due to this safety hazard. Add to that the fact that it's impossible to find replacement parts for these grills which is why I recently purchased a Char-Broil grill.

Jake of Redondo Beach CA (03/24/08)
I purchased a Charmglow 5 burner LP/Natural Gas Grill in 8-07. I used it a few times until it got too cold and finally today, 3-24-08 turned it back on. To my dismay the gas isn't flowing like it used to when I purched it 7 months ago. I could not get the grill warmer than 150 degrees, with all of the burners turned on. Plus all of the steel on the outside is rusted. I want a refund so I can purchase a better quality grill

The grill was over $500. I want my money back.

Sobia of Lodi CA (03/24/08)
The bbq almost blew up in my face.

Sharon of Decatur AL (03/24/08)
I bought a Charmglow stainless steel gas grill. The same model (720)as the other complaints that I read. All the burners burnt out and almost caught the fence on fire in my backyard. I went to Home Depot and immediately they told me that I would have to contact the Charmglow company. They told me that their warranty was only for 90 days. Additionally, they don't carry any parts for the grill. I would rather spend my money on filing a small claims against Home Depot than buying new burners that won't work. Home Depot should have to replace all of these grills, with a different brand obviously.

I am out $434.91 and have no grill because I gave my old grill away-that worked.

Ben of Mission Bc OTHER (03/16/08)
CHARMGLOW GRILL MODEL 720-0234. All five burners rotted in less than two years.  What a piece of garbage for a barbeque.  A class action suit needs to be started against Home Depot or else for all affected consumers to be reimbursed.

IT ALMOST BURNED DOWN MY HOUSE DUE TO BURNERS COMING APART--creating a flash of hot gasses. I have taken photos and will be more than happy to share such with consumers.

Guy of Raleigh NC (03/16/08)
Charmglow - 720-0234: The burners on this unit all rusted within a year. Flames started coming out of the back. On taking the unit apart, I noticed cracks in all the burners from rust. No parts were at the local home Depot; and, in fact, the sales person tried to sell me another Charmglow unit. This unit has terrible quality, and I am amazed Home Depot is banking their reputation on selling such terrible quality and continuing to sell the CharmGlow series. I am guessing the bottom line: Profit is better than keeping customers. The cost to replace these burners after a year will be over $150, and I expect those will also last only a year. I will not be buying parts; rather, I will be going back to a Weber and Ace Hardware.

Spent $500 on the original unit.

Jim of Wilmington NC (03/10/08)
Bought Charmglow grill in 2005. Christmas 2007, burners rusted out large fire. No damage to house, thank God. No parts or service available. No help from Home Depot.

Out $350.00 and a tremendous scare. Had I not been present the house would have surely burned down.

Jon of Melbourne FL (03/09/08)
Don't even think of buying one of these grills. I purchased the Charmglow stainless steel 720-0234 only 17 months ago, and all 5 burners are rusted out. To replace them would cost over $180.00 with shipping; and from what I have read on this web site, the electronic lighters don't work after replacing the burners. For an extra $100.00 you can get a brand new Charbroil grill. For $499.00, you would think you were getting a good grill. Not!

I can't believe Home Depot sells this junk, and they won't even help you. They tell you to contact Charmglow. What a joke. I went to Lowe's and got a Charbroil. It is sold everywhere, and the burners come with a limited lifetime warranty. Even if you have to by them for replacement, they are only $9.95; and you can get them just about anywhere.

Laura of Slidell LA (03/08/08)
we purchased a charmglow grill model #720-0234 from home depot less than 16months ago. all five burners have rusted out. the quality of this charmglow grill is not worth the price we paided for it.

Billie of Fort Pierce FL (03/06/08)
After one year, the burners rotted out; and this thing is completely out of the weather.

$350.00 out of my pocket.

Buddy of Murfreesboro TN (03/02/08)
I purchased a Charmglow gas grill model #720-0036-Hd-05 from Home Depot 24 months ago, and the gas burners have all rusted in two. I was just wanting the burners and was willing to pay for them. He told me that they no longer carry those and to contact Charmglow. Now I find out they are not available at all, and all of these units that were made were defective. I went back to the store, and he said he could not help me and walked off.

Grill flared up and almost burned the side of my house down.

Carolyn of Wappingers Falls NY (02/26/08)
I purchased the Charmglow 3-burner grill foolishly thinking it was a good product because of the Charmglow reputation. Boy was I wrong! In less than a year the three burners rotted beyond recognition, and the bottom of the grill literally rotted out. My grill is still under full warranty and calling Home Depot got me nowhere. They said I needed to call the manufacturer. Home Depot should be ashamed to be selling this product! On the 800 number, another joke, I was left on hold for an hour the 1st time I called, and the other 3 times I hung up after 30 minutes of hearing "Your call is important to us please remain on the line!" My piece of junk grill is going to the dump where it belongs! At this point I can't be bothered paying for replacement parts that are going to rot in less than a year anyway! I'm not taking the chance of going up in flames like others have! Cut your losses; get a Weber!!

I spent about $350 on this piece of junk when I could have spent another $150 and gotten a Weber. It's a much better product from what I hear--with outstanding customer service. Charmglow and Home Depot should be mortified to be selling such a sub-standard product!

Dan of Duluth GA (02/25/08)
Do not buy Charmglow gas grills! I have had problems with the Home Depot model 720-0036-HD-05. The burners disintegrated within the first two years. One month after purchasing the grill, a recall was issued because of a potential fire hazard because a hose ran too close to the firebox. It was more than two years after the fact that I accidentally learned about it on-line. It took four months to get the repair kit for the recall. I still do not know if I fixed the problem as the instructions were vague at best.

I purchased the grill in July, 2005. Here it is February, 2008, and I think I am only left with a $350 planter!

Rick of North Bend WA (02/21/08)
I bought a Charmglow bbq, and after only one year, all three burners rotted away. What a piece of junk! Someone needs to make this right to all ripped off consumers.

I have tried for seven months to find replacement parts. I would think Home Depot would carry parts for bbqs they sell. No. And at $35 for each burner, I could buy a better grill for only $50 more.

David of Kingsland TX (02/21/08)
I bought the same Charmglow grill in Jan. 05. The burners burned out in about a year. I happened to stumble upon a recall on the internet about possible fires. Through the internet I ordered a replacement part, no problem-- just got replacement burners. Today I paid $30 a piece for them, and now one the the ignitors isn't working; and after reading the testimonies, I am afraid of a fire! What a piece of junk! Shame on Home Depot. But let's keep buying junk from China!

K. of A.c. CA (02/18/08)
Can anyone say class action lawsuit? Or small claims court? This manufacturer used to make awesome grills-- Home Depot bought them out recently, so there goes the build quality. It would cost Home Depot tens of thousands just to defend in small claims; I suggest using this venue, or report to consumer affairs for violation of warranty under multiple defects and no resolution. Even this costs time and money to vendor and manufacturer. Chances are you will either get your money back + expenses, or a new grill. I did this with Home Depot 2 years ago (product was Char-Broil), and they refused to help.

After issuing a subpoena for small claims hearing, they attempted to settle for $250. I paid $400, so I told them to take a hike. Day of the hearing they offered replacement of my grill, but upgraded to the next series. I told them it was too late. Judge found in my favor, replaced my grill and paid me $1000.00 for my troubles. When the grill replacement I got had a defect issue, I went back, and they replaced it no fuss ratter than having to deal with me again. Don't let these guys roll over you.

Paul of Mechanicsville VA (02/15/08)
I have a 16-month-old Charmglow Stainless Steel 3 burner grill. All three burners rotted out in less than a year and a half. What a piece of junk.

I can't use the grill.

Charles of Suwanee GA (02/12/08)
I bought the Charmglow 720 grill, as well. I was speaking to a co-worker about my grill, and he told me I wasn't the only one with the burnt out burners. It is actually the second of these grills I've had. The first was replaced after it caught on fire, and the new one had an attachment to keep the supply hose away from the burners. Now a year and half later my so called stainless burners are fried. I thought what a great deal; now I realize I was had. I'm most upset with Home Depot.

Steve of Frisco, TX (01/19/08)
I bought a CharmGlow about 2 years and the thing is falling apart. The burners are throwing big flames out the back of the BBQ.  When I took it apart to find the problem, I found that not only were the burners all rusted and broke but the igniters were rusted and falling apart too.

This $350.00 unit is a big waste of money.

David of Williamsport MD (01/16/08)
I purchased a Charmglow grill (model number 720-0036-HD-05) from Home Depot. It was only a year old when I had a problem with the knob on the regulator, which attaches to the LP tank. Due to the problem of the recall with the hoses and regulator getting too hot, this knob just fell apart. Thank God when this happened, the regulator hose had detached from the LP tank. I contacted Nexgrill and was told the parts for the recall would be shipped in a few days.

It has been since Sept.2007 since I was told this. I have called, emailed until I'm blue in the face. We bought the grill to use, not to plant flowers in it. Is there someone else to contact to get this resolved? Have not been able to use the grill which cost over $350.00. I'm getting no where with the manufacturer.

Terri of Bluffton SC (01/05/08)
I bought the Charmglow 720 model a little over a year ago, and the burners all of a sudden started shooting huge flames out the back of the grill. Upon taking it apart, the tubes are completely corroded and have huge holes. As the rest of the complaints state, so is my situation: Home Depot won't do anything. What a waste of money. I always thought Charmglow was a good product, and now I have to somehow dispose of this stainless steel piece of junk and purchase a new one.

Being a single mother and saving for a nice grill and now unable to use my grill, is very frustrating.

Don of League City, TX (01/01/08)
After reading all the complaints on this grill from Home Depot, I am not even trying to replace the burners which burned out in one year. The grill also caught on fire like others complained about.

James of Pflugerville TX (11/24/07)
I bought a Charmglow grill model 720-0036-HD-05 from Home Depot, and the stainless steel burners burned out within 2 years. I bought new ones and replaced them; now the igniters are rusted through, and I can't get replacement parts.

I saved money for this grill. I paid $350 for a stainless steel grill so I wouldn't have this problem.

Bill of Alvin TX (11/19/07)
A little over a year ago I bought a Charmglow gas grill (model # 720-0230). The burners, which have a 5 year warranty, burned out in less than a year. Parts are back ordered, and they don't know when they will be shipped.  The grill was bought from Home Depot, and they said they can't help me either.

Jeff of Corinth TX (11/13/07)
I ordered (5) Stainless Steel Main Burners for Charmglow Model #720-0234, Serial #CS-JD-018286 in September and was told that it would be 6 weeks to receive the parts. Here it is November 13th and still have not received anything and cannot get through via e-mail or telephone. We paid $500 for this grill last year and the burners should not have burned up that quick.

Unable to use our grill for almost 3 months.

Sean of Houston TX (11/12/07)
CharmGlow 720-0230 burners completed rusted out and fell out of the bottom of the grill after one year.  Just another example of why Chinese products are awful!

Angelique of Jacksonville FL (10/05/07)
Im having the same problems with my Charmglow grill 720-0230, flames coming out the back, my burners and tamers have rusted and only had it since this last year, I thought for a $350.00 Stainless Steel grill,it would not do this. This is pretty crappy, for such a very nice grill.

So what am I to do? I see everyone is having to call and order these useless parts, and why is it taking so darn long for them, be freaking responsible, to this company, peoples lives could have been gone or hurt very badly and then what would have happened? get the darn parts to us, recall this model also and be more than happy to replace the parts. and since this is such junk why are we having to pay s&h charges, its yalls responsibility to replace them.

David of Summerton SC (10/04/07)
I purchased a Charglow Gas Grill (Model #720-0230) that is still under warranty. I called (September) to say burners had failed. They said they were covered and would send repacements at a cost of $14. for shipping. At the end of Sept., I called to see what the status was. They said they were on back order and I would receive at end of Sept.

I called today, (Oct.4) and they said would be another 3 weeks. I asked if they could expidite. They said if I ordered online I could get sooner. I aske to speak to supervisor. She said they were in meeting (naturally). I have not been able to use my grill in six weeks, but because I am a current customer I have to wait, but if I want to forget warrenty and pay full price I can get now. I have been recommending the Charmglow gill to people who have seen it at my house, but I will never do it again.

John of Islip Terrace NY (09/24/07)
Purchased from Home Depot 4-29-05 Right off there was a recall 8-05 for a possible fire hazard involving the hose and regulator. But every year since I'm having to replace the SS Linear Burners and the Flame Tamers which rust and rot out yearly. Even being warranted for 5 yrs on the burners and 3 on the Tamers ,when that expires I will be faced with a cost at todays prices $28/Burner x 3 = S&H of $15. Tamers at??Cost.

Who knows what can happen? I have large flames coming out of the rear of the burners and wasting extra gas besides. What am I supposed to do? Not use the grill for months? Buy another as a alternate. Can't afford to pursue a company over such a matter , but it would be great to see a Class Action suit initiated.

Carol of Port Richey FL (09/24/07)
ordered three burners for this piece of crap grill. they burned out after two years. was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery plus $14.95 for shipping. i just placed the order today, so i can't comment on how long it took to receive them, if i ever do.

John of Lake Winnebago MO (08/29/07)
Same story as others. Charmglow grill #720-0036-HD-05. Burners burned out in two year period. Ordered on June 12, 2007. Burners were on back order. Called 7/26/07 the said would be in on 8/5/07. Called on 8/13/07, burners in but had not shipped. Called again on 8/21/07, still had not shipped.

Called today and placed on hold for extended time and then decided to check on internet and found that others are having the same problem. Have been unable to use grill all summer.

Nicholas of New Port Richey FL (08/23/07)
Purchased a charmglow , model 720-0230 grill last year and the burners that are supplied were to be stainless steel, and rusted away in less then one year. The grill is kept indoors and used maybe twice a week.

I called to order replacement. After call several times, and left holding the phone for hours, I finnally got through. I has told the grill was still under warenty, but the burners were on back order. It would take 6-8 weeks to get them. This was in June. To date (8/22/07) nothing.

I called Home Depot and asked for help. They could not get any results from Charmglow. I spoke to Charmglow today. Burners are still on back order and will be about 6-8- weeks before they get them. Same story. Charmglow buys from China and the products are JUNK. Charmglow make big profits at the expence of the trusting consumer.

Bill of Gahanna OH (08/08/07)
The charmglow gas grill that I purched from Home Depot burners rusted out. I finally got in touch with someone from consumer affairs and was told that the burners were being replaced nd I should receive them. They gave me a confirmation number of 278784 and told me that I would be billed $14.96 for postage. This was several months ago and I have not received the burners nor any communication concerning same.

Alec of Spanish Fort AL (07/02/07)
I filed a report of a faulty grill with the customerservice@grillservices.com referencing a recall on gas grill model number 720-0036-HD-05 and was told the parts would go out immediately. I got a confirmation number but never received the parts. No response on the 800 number, just long waits with messages every five minutes about how important my call is.

I have been unable to use the grill, it is $350.00 wasted and the hose is melted to the grill pan.

Claudia of Mechanicsburg PA (05/23/06)
I purchased a Charmglow gas grill 720-0036-HD-05 in May 2005. This May 11 I was using grill after winter cleaning and it caught on fire. Was unable to turn off gas with knobs and could not reach under as fire was below cooking surface. All hoses knobs etc. burned.

I have contacted Nexgrill twice by email and three time by phone. I have received a part that was to be installed to prevent fire but have not yet received as promised the hoses, knobs etc. May 23 phone call they now tell me the parts have never been shipped. I would feel much better with a new grill and not have to rebuild this one.

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/charmglow.html

I purchased a Sears Kenmore Elite Liquid Propane Gas Grill, Model 141.166400. Most parts are limited to a one-year warranty. However, a couple of the cast parts have a lifetime warranty. One of these parts broke and I have been trying to get Sears to honor the warranty spelled out in their Owner's Manual over their name without success.

I have been referred back and forth between service, parts, in-home warranty, and any other phone number they could think of to refer me to. Sears stated that they sold the warranty to someone else, others say the warranty is a manufacturer's warranty...not Sears. However, the Owner's manual clearly says nothing about a non-sears warranty. The only resolution actually offered was to send a tech out to verify the part is broken. This service call costs from $50-$100. However, the most expensive part on the grill does not approach this cost. So, Sears has effectively escaped their unlimited warranty. No one in their right mind would pay $50 for a $31 part. At this rate two things are possible...(1)sears will drive off yet another customer of over 50 years and (2)they can replace me with millions of customers that are unaware that Sears warrantys are not worth the paper they are printed on.
